Boldbrush Painting Competition Top 10 Finalist
Este es el más prestigioso premio que he logrado con Boldbrush hasta el momento. Y digo que es un premio porque participan miles de artistas de todo el mundo, y el organizador considera a los 10 finalistas como obras premiadas. Boldbrush Art Contest & Exhibit es la competencia de FASO, Art Storefronts-Art Marketing, empresa que se dedica a elevar el nivel del arte, promocionar a los artistas, y premiar sus esfuerzos, de la manera más profesional. Este premio incluye publicaciones en internet, mailing y anuncios gratuitos para promocionar al artista. / This is the most prestigious award I have achieved with Boldbrush so far. And I say that it is a prize because thousands of artists from all over the world participate, and the organizer considers the 10 finalists as awarded works. Boldbrush Art Contest & Exhibit is the competition of FASO, Art Storefronts-Art Marketing, a company dedicated to raising the level of art, promoting artists, and rewarding their efforts, in the most professional way. This prize includes free internet publications, mailings and advertisements to promote the artist.
En este caso la obra premiada fue "Floating head", de 65 x 50 cm y realizada en carboncillo y Pan Pastel sobre papel Canson Mi Teintes. Esta obra también fue seleccionada para el Salón Nacional de Artes Visuales 2021-2022 en Costa Rica, el evento más prestigioso a nivel nacional, organizado por el MAC Museo de Arte Costarricense. El modelo es el modelo de arte de fama mundial John Carrasco, quien trabaja para los mejores artistas y academias del mundo. Debajo de la obra les comparto el texto concepto con el que se presentó al Salón Nacional. / In this case, the winning work was "Floating head", 65 x 50 cm, charcoal and Pan Pastel on Canson Mi Teintes paper. This work was also selected for the 2021-2022 National Salon of Visual Arts in Costa Rica, the most prestigious event at the national level, organized by the MAC Museo de Arte Costarricense. The model is the world famous art model John Carrasco, who works for the best artists and academies in the world. Below the work I share the concept text with which it was presented to the National Salon.
Antecedentes
El dibujo se realiza con base en una fotografía del modelo internacionalmente famoso John Carrasco después de una negociación directa con él, logrando su aprobación y posterior publicación de la obra en sus redes. Fue una negociación dura, por alguna razón tenía mucha desconfianza del resultado final, y prácticamente me retó a intentarlo, con la amenaza de no publicarlo si no era de su agrado. Quedó sorprendido con el resultado y lo publicó en sus redes.
Propuesta y Concepto
Mi cabeza flota. Desde que comenzó esta cosa de la pandemia mi cabeza flota. Viaja por aquí y por allá, observando, analizando, tratando de entender, y no entiende nada.
Plasmar un retrato tiene para mi es un desafío grande que he asumido con mucha seriedad, proponiéndome siempre reflejar grandes cosas en la mirada del retratado.
Esta cabeza flotante es la mía, es la de ustedes, es aquel espíritu errante que no entiende, que analiza desde arriba, que se desvive por comprender, que se hace muchas preguntas, que encuentra pocas respuestas, y que busca, siempre busca, algún tipo de explicación.
Y en esa eterna búsqueda pasa el tiempo, un tiempo que no existe, que no se mide, que no se puede meter dentro de un reloj y ...
Esta cosa de la pandemia como le llamo, es la incomprensión misma, el comportamiento absurdo del ser humano, que cual rata de laboratorio corre por su jaula sin ir a ninguna parte, sin encontrar sosiego, sin entender, sin hallar explicaciones.
El humano no entiende, está en shock, no logra hacer nada para salir de allí, no sabe cómo colaborar, cómo ser útil, cómo ser parte de alguna solución, y permanece, de manera flotante, como parte del problema.
Y en esa contemplación se le va la vida, incapaz de entender, de hacer, de solucionar y de explicar. Pierde la capacidad de actuar, queda flotando, casi inmóvil, a merced del viento y de las circunstancias, que lo llevan aquí y allá, observando, analizando, visualizando, sin entender, sin solucionar nada, solo siendo.

Background
The drawing is based on a photograph of the internationally famous model John Carrasco after a direct negotiation with him, obtaining his approval and subsequent publication of the work on his networks. It was a tough negotiation, for some reason he was very distrustful of the final result, and he practically dared me to try it, threatening not to publish it if he didn't like it. He was surprised with the result and published it on his networks.
Proposal and Concept
My head floats. Ever since this pandemic thing started, my head has floated. It travels here and there, observing, analyzing, trying to understand, and it understands nothing.
Capturing a portrait is a great challenge for me that I have taken on very seriously, always proposing to reflect great things in the gaze of the model.
This floating head is mine, it is yours, it is that wandering spirit that does not understand, that analyzes from above, that goes out of its way to understand, that asks itself many questions, that finds few answers, and that seeks, always seeks, some kind of explanation.
And in that eternal search time passes, a time that does not exist, that cannot be measured, that cannot be put inside a clock and...
This pandemic-thing, as I call it, is the lack of understanding itself, the absurd behavior of the human being, who, like a laboratory rat, runs through his cage without going anywhere, without finding peace, without understanding, without finding explanations.
The human does not understand, is in shock, cannot do anything to get out of there, does not know how to collaborate, how to be useful, how to be part of some solution, and remains, floating, as part of the problem.
And in that contemplation his life goes away, unable to understand, to do, to solve and to explain. He loses the ability to act, remains floating, almost immobile, at the mercy of the wind and circumstances, which take him here and there, observing, analyzing, visualizing, without understanding, without solving anything, just being.
